Name: Natsuno Yuuki/Koide
Age: 16
Canon: Shiki
Canon Point: Post-canon
History:
Natsuno was born to two parents who were somewhat unconventional. They never married and in the eyes of Japan, he was legally Natsuno Koide, after his mother's surname. Natsuno never did care too much for his parents. They were strange and the fact he had a different last name got him teased a lot when he was young.
When he was fifteen, they decided to move out of the city to the countryside, something that he really hated. Upon arriving in Sotoba, he was determined not to make any friends. He wanted nothing to do with the village, and he wanted to study hard and get into a university in the city so he could escape his family, and his home. Although his resolve was strong, he wavered and did make a best friend named Tohru Mutou.
The following summer, strange things began to happen. New neighbours from the city built a large mansion in the hills overlooking Sotoba and a girl who had a crush on him and continuously stalked him, turned up sick until she died. After this he couldn't shake the feeling that she was still watching him, despite knowing she was dead. This paranoia struck him hard and made him suspicious. He confronted the doctor and asked him if he thought Megumi had died. Despite not being taken seriously, he continued to dig around into the affairs of the small town. He came to believe that there were vampires - Shiki - roaming around his village and killing people off one by one.
His worry reached a climax when his best friend was attacked before his eyes by Megumi at a sleepover. Although he brushed it off as a dream at the time, when Tohru died a few days later, he knew what he had seen was reality. He was sad, but at the same time he wasn't entirely sure his best friend was dead. Just when he had vowed to take up arms against the Shiki and defeat them, Tohru comes to his window. Upon meeting face to face, Tohru runs and makes a break for it. Natsuno foolishly chases after him and after a confrontation with Megumi and one of the higher ranked vampires, Tatsumi, Tohru sinks his teeth into Natsuno's neck.
During his final days, he tries to convince Tohru to give up trying to kill him and offering to run away from the village with him. Natsuno offers him protection, but Tohru is hungrier than Natsuno can understand and after three visits, with a great deal of acceptance in his heart, Natsuno dies.
Like Tohru, Natsuno becomes one of the Risen, but he is different. He didn't die for as long, and he came back as a Jinrou, like Tatsumi. Although he has returned to life, he does not look at this as a blessing, but a curse. He feels that if he has died, then he should be dead. He vows to finish off the Shiki and save the townspeople, and actively works alone in the shadows to help the doctor, Toshio get rid of the plague once and for all.
Working with Toshio Ozaki, the town doctor, Natsuno plays a heavy role in destroying the Shiki - by taking care of the other Jinrou. He bites Toshio to save him, and controls the family steward into killing Yoshie. He takes on Tatsumi himself in a battle that he performs poorly, but he gets them to fall into the mass grave. At the last moment he pulls out dynamite and lights it, killing himself and Tatsumi while Sotoba burns around them.
Appearance:
The image can be found here.
Natsuno's appearance in The World is slightly different. He will be outfitted in black robes with yellow accents, a nod to the coat he was wearing when he died. Beneath his robes he wears capri length black pants, and sneakers. Atop his head are violet dog ears and a violet tail, all matching his natural hair colour, which remains unchanged. His canines are a little sharper than a regular human's, since he is a member of the Lei tribe.
Personality:
Natsuno tends to come across cold and unfeeling, however this is just a facade, in the sense that he does have emotions. A well of angry emotions, bubbling under the surface. He hides his emotions through rational thinking and doing his best to keep emotion out of most conversations. Natsuno dislikes his parents more than most people, as well as his name. He reacts with an angry snap if someone should call him by his given name, instead of his surname. In fact, when meeting someone new, he sometimes won't give his first name at all. He reacts to his parents with hostility, nothing they do is ever right, and he blames them for his own death. He shares different sociological views from them. He does not find the countryside quaint, romantic or enjoyable. He believes parents should marry to save their children heartache, and he believes in holding a steady job and getting a good education.
He believes in education being his key out of the situation he is in, enough to push himself to take addition courses outside of just going to school. He is incredibly studious. He hates the town he lives in, choosing not to engage with the local strangers around town, because he feels all they do is gossip. They refer to him as the artisan's son, something he hates, because of his resentment to his parents and their idea of work.
Natsuno has little patience for others, and is easily annoyed by them. He believes that everyone has a role in their minds for him to play, and he is not interested in playing it. Since moving wasn't his own choice, he came to resent the idea so much that he was determined not to make friends and only work on his school work. Natsuno has a great deal of resolve at times. When Megumi continued to be determined to speak to him, he would not even look at her. While this did not deter her, he did it for a self-serving purpose of feeling as though she deserved it. Every night he ensures the window screens are closed because she is stalking him and it makes him uncomfortable. He treats her with a great deal of contempt, a feeling he has for many people in his life. Even her death did nothing to change his feelings.
Despite everything, Natsuno does have a softer side. This more relaxed side to his personality only seems to appear when he is around Tohru Mutou, a friend he only made very reluctantly. As much as he hates his first name, he will sometimes let the matter drop, since Tohru's goal in life seems to be to call him Natsuno. He will spend time with his friend, playing video games or just hanging out at his house, and these are the times that he can relax and be a regular teenage boy. He is supportive and caring towards him, such as when Tohru asked him to come along to ask this girl out. He seldom smiles, but when he does, he is in Tohru's company. However when Tohru dies, he does not cry, because he believes he is going to return. Upon his return, he offers him the chance to run away with him, to leave Sotoba together, as he holds no loyalty to the village.
The biggest asset to his personality is his intelligence. His entire motivation is to leave Sotoba, and to do this he relies on his intelligence and his abilities in school. His inquisitive nature and deductive reasoning allows him to be the first to become aware of the movements of the Shiki, although this may not have happened if Megumi had stopped stalking him. He is however, not terribly street smart, and his actions of going around and starting to ask questions led to the Shiki becoming aware of his own movements. When the process of his slow, agonizing death begins, he leaves some rationality behind, putting faith in religious talismans and symbols in an effort to stop the inevitable. Prior to that, it appears he held the same belief as his family did, that it wasn't the truth of the world.
He still desires above all else, to leave Sotoba, and for once his dreams include Tohru. He makes peace with his father, letting go of the hatred and anger as he doesn't need it anymore. Not even when his father takes actions he disagrees with, does he feel any more anger towards him. Ever determined, even on the last night of his life, he asks Tohru once more to leave with him. He then lets go, resigning himself to his fate.
Natsuno's death affects his personality a great deal. All of his anger and hatred gains an entirely different focus - the Shiki, rather than the village or his family. He is not loyal to the village in any way, however, he is certainly not loyal to the Shiki either. They did kill him, and his best friend, after all. He is not happy to be one of the Risen, and feels that if he has died, then he should be dead. He believes the same for everyone in that situation. He begins to lead a secretive life, not letting anyone know he is alive until the last possible second. To ensure the success in his revenge, he does collaborate with the town's doctor, however he would rather be alone and do everything alone. He continues to count on his intelligence to fuel his plans and desire for revenge and vengeance. His plans include a suicidal factor as since he believes he is an abomination of sorts, he fully intends to die with the other Shiki. He hates what he has become as much as he hates his enemies. He holds his afterlife with no regard whatsoever. He does not believe in partaking in human blood, however he is forced to change this when his plans are interrupted by one of the Shiki, and he needs to make adjustments and save one of the villagers. Having seen what the Jinrou are like, he comes to detest the power they hold.
Race:
A Jinrou is Shiki's equivalent of a werewolf. Therefore he will be converted to the Lei tribe, taking on a canine appearance, while maintaining a mostly human look.
Class:
Natsuno is an intellectual type of person, not much of a fighter - as proven by the fact he was easily overpowered by Tatsumi. He has a desire to be stronger, but he has always lacked the physical build to be tough and violent. He'd rather be a spellcaster over a sword master and therefore he would select the Shadow Warlock class.
Abilities:
As a Jinrou he had access to heightened senses, the ability to see in the dark. He also had an accelerated healing ability, hypnotism/voice manipulation, levitation and super speed.
In this setting some of these skills would translate over well once he got to level fifteen. He could gain a healing boost, an agility/speed boost, a charm spell that he can activate with tone of voice. Levitation would mean floating above the ground about a foot in the air. *
Ironically, he has a decent amount of skill with video games as he used to play with Tohru frequently.
Items:
Being deceased, he has no items he wishes to bring with him.
Other:
*The abilities are subject to the mod's approval, no hard feelings if this is not acceptable.
SAMPLES;
First Person: Natsuno learning about guns.
Third Person:
The moment Natsuno opened his eyes, the world came crashing down around him. There was something wrong with his vision, his perception completely changed. Sharpened. He thought to himself as he sat up slowly raising a hand up to his head.
He remembered his last moments clearly, the desperation he felt gasping for air, the painful sparks shooting throughout his abdomen as his liver and kidneys shut down... Every breath that followed the cold tears of the undead. Natsuno remembered every moment he lay there dying.
He turned his head, gazing upon the shocked faces of the mortuary workers and his father who crossed the distance and embraced him. Natsuno made a face. There was so much bad blood between them, so much he could hardly forgive. It was then he noticed the crazed look in the man's eyes, the fatigue and the sorrow and he immediately felt the sting of regret at his thoughts. After all, it wasn't like his father hadn't loved him in some capacity, but rather that they never saw eye to eye on anything. Words were being spoken, but he was too shell-shocked to pay them any mind. The men were leaving, leaving him alone with his father.
Disengaging from his father's embrace, Natsuno raised a hand to his chest. He felt his heart in there, thumping away. His skin was still warm to the touch and he appeared very much alive. His eyes focused on his father again, tracing the line of his jaw and his neck and he felt it - the twin pricks of fangs growing from behind his teeth. He was most certainly, absolutely undead. He swallowed, distracting himself by glancing at the open window.
His father was speaking to him again. Natsuno gave him an appraising look. This man who would believe nothing of the supernatural, nothing of the superstitious and had thwarted every chance he had at survival. He could be the key. Natsuno needed an ally.
He willed his fangs to retract again and turned a smoldering look into his father's eyes.
